Adventures with Our New Tosai Pond

Over the years our koi keeping was improving, but the quality of our koi had not because of spawning in our pond and not knowing how to select koi. It was time to improve the quality of our koi but we did want to spend thousands. A tosai tank allows similar sized koi to grow at a faster rate because they are not competing for koi food with larger koi. It also allows us to save on koi food costs by feeding our tosai high quality food and feeding koi in our main pond less expensive food.

“Panic at the Pond”

So now, we have this pond, with koi, and some instruction on what to do with the equipment, and some without. As pond keepers we go about our life, enjoying the koi, feeding them, taking pictures of them, until one day, something goes wrong.

A fish swims the wrong way, or not like the others, a koi develops a red mark, raised scale, or even worse we find a deceased koi – every pond keeper’s nightmare!
