The Central California Koi Society (CCKS) hosted its 2025 Grow Out Competition for a fun, friendly, and educational opportunity to grow out a first-year (tosai) koi. This is an opportunity to get a high-quality koi at a great value.
Champion Koi in San Jose, CA, sponsored the Grow Out and sourced some beautiful, high-quality sanke variety koi fish from Izumiya Koi Farm in Japan.
Ultra Balance sponsored the Grow Out with a 22 lb. bag of growth koi food for every koi fish purchased in the Grow Out!
Grow Out Competition Results – Updated!
Congratulations to the 2025 Grow Out Competition winners! Thank you to Tom Lai, from Champion Nishikigoi, for judging the Grow Out Competition and sponsoring the Champion Nishikigoi gift card prizes. The Top Growth and Top Quality koi were awarded a $150 gift card. The 2nd in Growth and 2nd in Quality were awarded a $75 gift card. Tom chose a 3rd place in Quality to receive a bag of Hikari koi food.
The initial results announced were 1st in Growth: Isaac Lee and 2nd in Growth: Blue Alday, Ray Horne, Sheila Jackson (3-koi tie).
After the koi show, we discovered there was a miscalculation in growth for one of the Grow Out koi that resulted in a change in the results. An oversight caused by the many activities happening during the Koi Show and Grow Out judging. All winners were notified and allowed to keep the prizes. The actual first place in Growth was Sheila Jackson, who will receive a free koi in the 2026 Grow Out competition as a result. In the next Grow Out, we will have the calculations checked by a second person for accuracy (we improve our processes every year)!
